I want to warn everyone about the terrible negligence my family faced at Nashik Civil Hospital. My grandmother was admitted in October for an eye operation, and the experience was nothing short of traumatic. The surgery was done with shocking carelessness — the lens was inserted incorrectly, damaged, and left her in severe pain, swelling, and constant irritation. A private eye specialist later informed us that the lens inside her eye was broken and another layer had already formed due to the improper procedure. What happened was not a minor mistake but a serious failure that put her health and eyesight at risk. When we went back to Civil Hospital with proof of the damage, instead of showing responsibility, they gave excuse after excuse. First it was the Diwali period, then “come after 8 days,” then “we will call you,” and of course they never called. After 15 days of waiting, they told us casually that the operation was “not possible” there, with no concern for the fact that she was suffering because of their mistake. A senior private specialist later told us that her case had become critical, and she now has to be kept on strong medicines and drops just to manage what the Civil Hospital caused. Even after three months, she still has the wrongly inserted lens inside her eye and is suffering every day. People trust government hospitals to provide safe treatment, but our experience at Nashik Civil Hospital was the complete opposite careless work, irresponsible staff, and no respect for human life. What happened with my grandmother should not happen to anyone.
I have seen a third-class facility. They don’t have anti-rabies injections. The doctors told patients to buy the injections from outside. There is one medical store left side of opd gate, but they charge very high prices for the medicine. Patients have to complete the procedure first, and only after that can they go to the doctors for follow-up care.
Civil Hospital, Nashik, despite being one of the largest government hospitals in the region, suffers from severe shortcomings in its management and facilities. The first and most noticeable issue is the lack of hygiene. The premises are poorly maintained, with very little attention given to cleanliness. For a place meant to heal people, the unhygienic atmosphere itself becomes a risk for patients and visitors. Another major problem is the lift, which seems to be almost always under maintenance. This creates huge inconvenience for patients, particularly the elderly, pregnant women, and those in critical conditions who have to be moved across floors. Doctors too face daily struggles due to this negligence. Adding to the difficulty, there are no proper signboards in the hospital to guide visitors. Relatives of patients often waste precious time searching for wards and rooms, as even the reception desk does not provide clear or sufficient information regarding where patients are admitted. The behavior of some staff members also leaves much to be desired. Cooperation is minimal, and instead of helping worried relatives, the staff often shows indifference. The police personnel posted inside also display inappropriate and unfriendly behavior, which adds to the stress of patients and their families. On the positive side, the doctors are skilled and do their best under such difficult circumstances. However, unless hospital management addresses these issues—cleanliness, lift maintenance, proper signage, staff behavior, and accountability—the Civil Hospital will continue to fall short of the basic dignity and support that patients and families deserve.
