Long Overdue Review! Hugo Bear moved to the U.S. to live with me from Vizag, India, in July 2024. I discovered PetSpot through some YouTube videos featuring other pet parents who successfully relocated their snub-nosed babies abroad. I’ve been living in the U.S. for almost three years while Hugo stayed back home with my mom. During this time, I explored countless ways to bring him over, but I kept running into major challenges: As a snub-nosed dog, I absolutely refused to send him as luggage without me. He was above the standard 7-8kg weight limit for in-cabin travel on most airlines. The ever-changing CDC regulations made the process even more difficult. In June 2024, I reached out to Vizal, and we got started on the process. The timeline was extremely tight—we later found out that the CDC was introducing new rules in August 2024 that would make this move nearly impossible. Vizal and her team were incredibly knowledgeable about documentation, import/export regulations, and airline policies. They provided us with all the necessary paperwork and were available for any questions. Our Journey Hugo and I traveled: 🚆 Vizag → Delhi by train (stayed in Delhi for a few days to complete export regulations) ✈️ Delhi → New York (16-hour direct flight) ✈️ New York → Salt Lake City (our new home!) As expected, I was a nervous wreck throughout this process. One major hiccup happened at New Delhi Airport, where the airline check-in staff rejected Hugo’s soft carrier because it was two inches longer than allowed. At the last minute, Vizal helped us find a smaller bag, but it was incredibly stressful. We almost missed our flight, and poor Hugo was anxious in a new, unfamiliar carrier—one he wasn’t trained in. Final Thoughts Flying with pets internationally is a tedious and insane process—it should be easier, but that’s a conversation for another day. I’m deeply grateful to the PetSpot team—Hugo is safe and here with me because of their work. What once seemed impossible is now real, and I can’t thank them enough for that. However, as an anxious pet parent, I asked a lot of questions and needed extra support for my anxious dog. At times, it felt like we had to figure things out on our own, which was disappointing. I understand that this is a hectic line of work, but at the end of the day, this was Hugo’s life—and I believe there could have been more support in that regard. I did a lot of research on the travel on my own and tried to remain patient throughout. That said, I highly recommend PetSpot for their expertise, and I’m beyond relieved that Hugo is finally home! ❤️🐶
