Serious safety, hygiene, and handling issues. Extremely disturbing experience. This incident took place on 5th January 2025 during my puppy Doro’s first ever haircut at the Heads Up For Tails flagship store on Lavelle Road, Bangalore. What should have been a gentle milestone turned into a deeply upsetting experience. At the spa reception, I clearly stated that this was my seven-month-old mini poodle’s first haircut. I was told by the staff that the head groomer, Thangam, would handle the session. I did not request him. His name was given to me by the staff, which is why I spent nearly 15 minutes carefully explaining everything to him, including what to cut, what not to cut, and even showing Google images of haircuts I absolutely did not want. There was no ambiguity. There was no welcome, no effort to settle my puppy, and no staff support. Doro remained on his leash and collar and was already stressed. I eventually had to remove them myself. Being a playful puppy familiar with Heads Up For Tails stores, especially Richards Park, he began running around assuming it was a safe space. I had to manage this alone. No staff helped. Inside the grooming area, the situation was deeply concerning. Only one person was assigned to Doro for both shampooing and blow-drying. I am not saying every pet always needs two people, but when a pet is visibly anxious, two people are essential. At the Richards Park store, whenever Doro has shown anxiety, one person has always focused on calming him while another handled the equipment. That basic standard was missing here. From outside the spa room, we could hear Doro crying and yelping. There is a TV monitor outside that shows the grooming area, and I could clearly see that he was anxious and distressed. I even showed this to the staff on the monitor and told them he needed help. A staff member stepped in briefly, but left almost immediately, and once again he was left with a single person. I took videos from outside the spa room via the TV monitor, purely to document what was happening so that other pet parents do not have to go through the same ordeal. The environment was also unacceptable. Two large Mastiffs were being groomed alongside smaller breeds like poodles and Shih Tzus. Mastiff hair was flying everywhere into the smaller dogs’ areas, creating a clear hygiene issue. Another customer had to repeatedly ask staff to keep cleaning. Despite being told the head groomer would handle the haircut, the grooming was actually done by another groomer, Sam. I only discovered this when I saw Thangam cutting another dog and went to the spa reception to ask why. Only then was I told he had another appointment. Had I not asked, I would not have been informed. The session lasted two and a half hours, and the haircut looked nothing like what was discussed or shown through reference images. When I raised these concerns with the store manager, Hongsha, there was very little empathy or accountability. Doro remained withdrawn and unsettled for hours afterward. This is not a minor grooming issue. It points to serious problems with staffing, hygiene, transparency, and handling anxious pets. A flagship store means nothing if these fundamentals are missing. Unfortunately, a brand is a brand. A bad experience at Lavelle Road has broken my trust in Heads Up For Tails as a whole. Even Richards Park, which we earlier trusted, is now a no for me. I would strongly caution pet parents, especially those with puppies or anxious small breeds, before opting for grooming services here

We’ve been shopping at HUFT for our cats for a while now, and it has always been a great experience. Our point of contact, Satish, has been consistently professional, friendly, and very helpful. The rest of the store team has also been equally courteous and supportive every time we’ve visited. Since we have multiple cats, HUFT has also arranges for doorstep delivery, which makes things so much more convenient for us. It’s clear that they truly care about both pets and their owners.
